Hydrogen Supply Chain Planning With Flexible Transmission and Storage Scheduling

Hydrogen is becoming an increasingly appealing energy carrier, as the costs of renewable generation and water electrolysis continue to decline. Developing scalable modeling decision tools for H 2 supply chain that fully capture flexibility various resources essential understanding overall cost-competitiveness use. Here, we develop a planning model determines least-cost mix generation, storage, transmission, compression facilities meet demands coupled with power systems through electricity prices. We incorporate flexible scheduling trucks pipeline, allowing them serve both transmission storage shift demand/production across space time. The proposed provides reasonable trade-off between accuracy computational time, linear relaxations truck inventory routing production unit commitment. case study results in U.S. Northeast indicate critical not only cost minimization but also choice pathways natural gas based production. Trucks mobile could make intermittent electrolytic more competitive by providing extra spatiotemporal flexibility.
